RS4

Named in the public announcement Still open

See the five things players can already know about RS4

RS4 is the working title for a new RuneScape MMORPG, built in Unreal Engine. It stands beside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and it does not take their place. Gielinor is the world. Ashenfall is where the adventure begins. The game is still a few years away, which is why players are being asked in now: it is meant to be built with the people who will play it.

Five commitments are already public. The project is a new RuneScape MMORPG in Unreal Engine, and an independent experience beside the three games people play today. It is meant to stay true to integrity, permanent progression, and community driven development. The setting is Gielinor, with the opening in Ashenfall. The wait is measured in years, and the reason for speaking now is that invitation to build the game together. The concept film, the neighbouring games, and the interest form each add a concrete piece to those commitments.

The concept film

The concept film opens on floating rock islands above a lake, a walled town, and snow mountains beyond the water. From there it moves to a green dragon over a valley, three dragons passing a walled city, a street hung with pennants, a smith at an anvil, and a festival square. It closes on a flaming metal 4. The piece is a first glimpse. It is not a combat demo, not a skill menu, and not a character creator you can click through.

A hooded figure rides one large green dragon with a red eye. Green, red, and blue-grey dragons pass the city as separate creatures. A wizard in a blue hat and spectacles stands in the market, and a yellow-robed wizard with a star-headed staff greets a backpacker. None of those shots names a quest, a control, or a shop. The islands arrive about eight seconds in. The festival sits near one minute two. The numeral holds at one minute eighteen.

What you can take from the film is geography and mood: water, rock, snow, a town, dragons, and people in the street. What you cannot take is a combat system or a skill list. Those stay among the questions that are still too early, even after the smith's hammer has been on screen. Sort the frames by time if you want the film's order, or by place if you want the land, the city, the street, and the festival gathered together.

Three living games

The new project does not retire the games people already play. RuneScape keeps a dedicated team, a roadmap, and continued investment. Old School RuneScape keeps its own dedicated team, roadmap, and continued investment. RuneScape: Dragonwilds keeps a dedicated team and its own continued investment. RS4 is an independent experience with a team of its own, separate from those three. A player who cares about one of the older games is not being asked to migrate.

Dragonwilds has a second, narrower link. Ashenfall was first explored there, and the new project begins in that same land years later, after the Dragon Queen Kuldra, once the land has changed. That is a setting note. Dragonwilds progress, saves, and servers do not move across. Four projects can sit in one list: three continuing teams, and one new team beside them.

If a friend asks whether to quit a current character, the October 2026 answer is no. The three teams stay, and the new team has not asked anyone to move a save. Paying attention to RS4 does not relocate a character, and it does not pause the game that character already lives in.

Sign up with Jagex

Players can sign up now and register interest, because the game is meant to be built with the people who will play it. The form asks for an email address and a consent choice covering analytics and personalised advertising. The button reads Register interest. The address goes to Jagex, and no parallel list is collected beside that form.

Signing up is not a beta key and not a release date. No mail schedule has been set, no letter has been promised, and no test window has been named. The useful timing is the early one: the game is still a few years from a login, and the reason for talking now is the invitation to be involved while it is built. The fields are an address and a permission, not a prize.

Much more is due next year about the world, the game, the team, and how to get involved. That promise is for players in general. It is not a reward tier for the form, and it is not a month you can circle as a launch. Register if you want Jagex to have the address. Do not register as if the form were a purchase.

The flaming numeral

The film and the share image both close on a flaming metal 4. The numeral matches the working title, and it is the clearest picture the reveal has. RS4 is not necessarily the final name. Through the reveal weekend, people were already calling it RuneScape 4. On Monday, 5 October 2026, the project was still a fourth RuneScape MMO with the final name left open. The working title, the headline spelling, and the open final name are three labels for one early project.

The flaming 4 marks the reveal. It is not a shipped logo in a shop. RS4 has no Steam listing, no store capsule, and no client to install. No price and no system requirements are public. The share artwork shows that numeral on its own. The film's end card is a second view of the same fire and the same digit, held at one minute eighteen.

The share artwork and the end card are two pictures of one idea, so each can stand once. Describe the mark as flaming metal and a single 4. It is not a crest, not a finished wordmark, and not a button that starts a download.
